- Argentina has two exchange rates for US Dollar/Argentina
Peso, the official exchange rate and the Dólar Blue exchange rate,
the latter is more beneficial for those holding US dollars. If you
bring USD in cash to Argentina and exchange at the Dólar Blue rate,
your expenses while in Argentina will be more than 30% lower than if
you use the official exchange rate. ATMs use the official exchange
- If you are in Chile and are traveling to Argentina, you can
find exchange rates for Chilean Peso/Argentine Peso better than you
will find in Argentina, especially in Santiago and Punta Arenas.
Withdraw Chilean Pesos from an ATM in Chile and exchange them for
Argentine Pesos in Chile. This will provide a better exchange rate
then you will come across in Argetina.
- Yerba Mate is a tea commonly drank throughout Argentina. If you spend
enough time with Argentines, you will eventually learn about mate culture
- Timeliness and being punctual is not as common in Argentina
as it is in Western countries. Be prepared to wait around for a
while when you are told “viente minutos”.
